Fragments of Original and Fan Writings

Theme #04: Phone Conversations (Persona 4 Fanfiction)

I know I said that I wouldn’t write for the same series twice in a row, and I didn’t.  I wrote the last one first, and this one most recently.  I just wanted to talk about this post now since I’m in a P4 frame of mind.

At the moment this is a dialogue only story, but I think it’s kind of weak because of that.  I think I might need to make it half and half before I post it anywhere.

Summary:  Voicemails can be dangerous.  Even if you’re not the one calling or being called.

“Uh, hey, Partner. It’s Yosuke. Well, that should be obvious. Who else calls you “partner”? …no one else calls you that, right? Agh. Forget it. Call me back.”

“This is Narukami. Leave a message.” BEEP.

“That’s a beary cold message, Sensei. How are you supposed to score a hot stud with such an unbearable answering machine message? Anyway, Sensei, Yosuke says—”

“Message limit reached. Would you like to listen to the message you just recorded?”

“This is Narukami. If you’re a hot stud, please leave lots of messages.” BEEP.

“Seriously? I thought Rise-chan was kidding when she mentioned your new message. Sheesh. You’re going to freak Yukiko out if she hears this…”

“This is Narukami. Yukiko, please stop hurting Yosuke as a substitute for me.” BEEP.

“Not good enough, Partner. I don’t think Yukiko-chan is even considering calling you anytime soon. I ache all over. Fix this!”

“This is Narukami. Leave a message.”

“…Partner, I know that this isn’t your voicemail. You’re the one who called me.”

“…beep?”

“You’re an ass.”

“How was I supposed to know she’d beat you up?”

“Hey, hey! I did not get beaten up by a girl. And if you ever actually answered your phone I could’ve told you she’d take it out on me. Chie and Yukiko-chan act like we’re the same person.”

“What? Why? We’re totally different people.”

“Something about one partner being as good as the other. I dunno. Man, they’re weird.”

“Is Yukiko still mad?”

“I think she’s okay now. What’d you do to cool her off?”

“I promised to spend a whole afternoon trying her cooking the next time I go to Inaba.”

“What?! Man, why’d you do that? It’s not like it matters to you if she’s pissed. You’re too far away.”

“But she was hurting you.”

“…”

“Are you blushing?”

“S-shut up! God, stop treating me like a girl!”

“I wonder sometimes, Yosuke. You’re so emotional and clingy.”

“Fuck you.”

“Sorry, sorry. Anyway, I wanted to make sure you’re okay. I’m really sorry Yukiko went all… Amaterasu on you.”

“Eh, it’s okay. I almost felt like you were back in Inaba with all this shit about you going on.”

“Haha, I wish I had been there.”

“You and me both.”

“Hmm…”

“Hey, Partner?”

“Yeah?”

“How’re you going to make this up to me?”

“Isn’t getting tortured by Yukiko enough?”

“No~pe.”

“*sigh* Look out your window.”

“What?”

“C’mon.”

“Hey, there’s a creeper waving at me. Did you buy me a prostitute? Aw, you’re the best.”

“Shut up. Are you going to let me in or not?”

“Yeah, yeah. No one else knows you’re here?”

“Just you.”

“…okay. I forgive you.”

Click.

Ah, I don’t even know what I was going for when I wrote this.  Originally I wanted to write something all fluffy about Narukami and Yosuke missing each other and calling each other on the phone post game.  But then I remembered one of my favorite X-Men fanfictions when Gambit and Wolverine argued through voicemail messages that was just so silly and awesome.

The next thing I knew, Narukami was getting voicemails from a pitiful Yosuke and trolling Yukiko with an unfortunate result.  I think it’s still pretty cute at the end though.  Mood whiplash~
